Buhari Should Declare His Health Status – Prof Soyinka

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to disclose his state of health to Nigerians, stating that the President is a public property.

Soyinka at a forum in Lagos on Friday themed, ‘Sacred Cow’, described speculations surrounding the President’s true state of health as avoidable.

The Nobel laureate stated that Buhari’s failure to publicly disclose his state of health had increased political manipulations in the country.

Buhari was on Wednesday absent from the Federal Executive Council meeting and the Juma’at service at the mosque in the Presidential Villa on Friday.

Soyinka said, “Why is the President hiding his state of health? He’s supposed to understand he’s public property; me, I’m still private property, that’s why I’m not in Aso Rock.

Jonathan, from beginning, was too small for the Presidency – Obasanjo

ABUJA – Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that former President Goodluck Jonathan from his first days as President showed he was too small for the office, saying he, Obasanjo, acted more as an opponent of Jonathan than a supporter of Muhammadu Buhari ahead of the 2015 presidential poll.

Obasanjo, who said Jonathan deceived him that he would not give Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke the petroleum portfolio in his cabinet was deceived into believing that he could use money to buy the 2015 presidential election.

Obasanjo in the book, Against the Run of Play: How an Incumbent President was defeated in Nigeria, written by former presidential spokesman, Segun Adeniyi, also revealed that Jonathan was gripped by the fear that Buhari, as president, would jail him or lead him to an early grave.

In the 204-page book, former President Jonathan is himself quoted as saying he could not be held accountable for provocative remarks made by some of his supporters, even as former Senate President, David Mark, is also quoted in the book as alleging that he forewarned the former president about the alleged conspiracy against him in the north but to no avail.

Jonathan Blames Obama for 2015 Presidential Election Defeat

Nigeria’s Goodluck Jonathan has blamed Barack Obama for his 2015 presidential election defeat to Muhammadu Buhari, alleging the former US president headed a global conspiracy to get rid of him.

Jonathan made the allegations in a new book out on Friday called “Against The Run of Play”, which documents how he became the first Nigerian incumbent head of state to lose an election.

He said Obama and his officials “made it very clear to me by their actions that they wanted a change of government in Nigeria and were ready to do anything to achieve that purpose”.

“They even brought some naval ships into the Gulf of Guinea in the days preceding the election,” he was quoted as saying in the 204-page book, by journalist Olusegun Adeniyi.

Jonathan won widespread praise for conceding to Buhari before the final results were announced, preventing deadly violence that blighted previous elections in Africa’s most populous nation.

I’ll Reveal How Jonathan was Removed in My Book –Tinubu

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Friday said he was working on a book that would detail how his party removed former President Goodluck Jonathan from office.

Buhari removed an incumbent President from office in 2015.

Speaking at the launch of “Against the Run of Play”, a book authored by Chairman, ThisDay Editorial Board, Olusegun Adeniyi, Tinubu said he would soon reveal how the APC defeated the Peoples Democratic Party in the last presidential election.

Obasanjo Opens Up: Why I picked Jonathan instead of Odili as Yar’Adua’s VP

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed why he picked Goodluck Jonathan instead of the man who had campaigned, Peter Odili, as President Umaru Yar’adua’s running mate.

Continuing from the book, Baba Obasanjo confirmed that Odili, a former Governor of Rivers, was his first choice as Yar’adua’s running mate, but some hurdles made it possible…

“Of course, Jonathan was not my first choice as running mate to Yar’Adua; it was Dr. Peter Odili. But whether by fate or some conspiracy, Odili had hurdles that made it impossible for him to take that position. That was how I settled for Jonathan,” Obasanjo said.

The political power-play between 2016 and 2017 was very interesting, to say the least.

Amaechi Had Problem With My Wife, Not Me — Jonathan | Ex-Governor Reacts

Rather, Jonathan stated that Amaechi had a problem with his wife, Patience, which he (Jonathan) tried in vain to resolve.

Jonathan’s disclosed this in the book – ‘Against the Run of Play’ – written by Segun Adeniyi.

The book stated, “Jonathan told me that Amaechi’s problem was not with him but rather with his wife and that, at a point, he tried to reconcile them.”

While Amaechi admitted that he was at loggerheads with Patience, he said Jonathan was not saying the whole truth, noting that there were also disagreements between him and Jonathan, during the latter’s era as the President.

Obasanjo EXPL0DES : I Warned Jonathan over Diezani, Others

President Olusegun Obasanjo has said he warned President Goodluck Jonathan against assigning the Ministry of Petroleum Resources to Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, the former minister.

He said Jonathan ignored him and the nation could feel the consequences of that action.

He also said he told Jonathan not to seek a second term ticket in office in line with the agreement he had reached with prominent Northern leaders.

He said although Jonathan enlisted Pastor E.A. Adeboye and Bishop David Oyedepo on January 12, 2015, at his Hilltop residence in Abeokuta to beg him, he said he stood his ground that Jonathan must abide by the one term agreement.

Besides, he explained that poor handling of Boko Haram insurgency made him oppose Jonathan’s return because a continuation of the administration could endanger the country.

He accused Jonathan of considering state matters within the prism of Ijaw politics.

Obasanjo made the disclosures in a new book, ‘Against The Run of Play’, written by the Chairman of ThisDay Editorial Board, Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi.
